In June 2021 Samsung launched the Galaxy A22 and Galaxy A22 5G models. Obviously one model has 5G and another does not. Both models share the name and look similar. But it may be that the similarities end there. In this article we will analyze the main differences between the models to help choose the best option in case of purchase.
The Galaxy A22 models are large phones, or we could say medium in size by today's standards. Galaxy A22 5G is slightly larger due to its larger screen. It is almost 0.8 centimeters longer, almost 0.3 centimeters wider, and it is also slightly thicker. Its weight is around 203 grams, while the model without 5G has a weight of 186 grams.
Samsung Galaxy A22 159,3 x 73,6 x 8,4 mm 6,27 x 2,90 x 0,33 in 186 g 6,56 oz |
Samsung Galaxy A22 5G 167,2 x 76,4 x 9,0 mm 6,58 x 3,01 x 0,35 in 203 g 7,16 oz |
Galaxy A22 5G has a 6.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels. The model without 5G has a slightly smaller screen of 6.4 inches with a resolution also lower of 720 x 1,600 pixels. Curiously, the most modest model has an OLED screen which is of better quality on paper. Both models have a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
In both models the main camera has 48 MP and f/1.8. The rest of the cameras are similar, with a Ultra Wide Angle lens of 5 MP and f/2.2 (8 MP in the model without 5G), and Depth of 2 MP and f/2.4.
In addition to a better Ultra Wide Angle lens, the model without 5G mounts a fourth 5 MP Macro camera.
Galaxy A22 5G has an 8 MP and f/2.0 front camera, while the non-5G model has a 13 MP and f/2.2 front camera. The front camera should be tested to assess which is better, since the megapixel difference may be less relevant than the aperture.
There are few differences when it comes to storage. Samsung provides the following options on both models:
In addition, the model with 5G comes with another option:
Both models mount a mid-range MediaTek processor. The model without 5G mounts the MediaTek Helio G80 processor with a maximum frequency of 2.0 GHz, and the model with 5G mounts the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor with a maximum frequency of 2.2 GHz.
The processor of the Galaxy A22 5G is more modern and probably faster, but the difference is probably not significant in normal use of the phone.
There are no differences when it comes to the battery, which is 5,000 mAh with fast charging of 15 W.
Galaxy A22 5G has 5G and NFC, not available on the lower model.
As you might expect, the model without 5G is cheaper, around 200 €. While the model with 5G is priced at 230 €.
As a summary, the following table shows the most significant differences:
